Migrant workers experience safety hazards

As the impact rod slowly rises, it suddenly falls and lands on a worker standing below. However, thanks to the proper use of a safety helmet, the worker remains unharmed. On June 24th, the "Responsible Responsibility of China" event, sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, took place at the China Building Safety Experience Hall. There, workers had the opportunity to experience real-life safety scenarios, including the hard hat impact test, hoisting operation simulation, and the falling object experiment. These hands-on activities provided an immersive learning experience for participants.

This facility marks the first practical training base in the construction industry specifically designed to prevent the six major hazards: high falls, object impacts, collapses, mechanical injuries, lifting accidents, and electric shocks. By simulating real-world dangers that occur on construction sites, the program allows participants to feel the consequences of unsafe behavior firsthand, making safety more tangible and memorable.

"It's better to experience something once than hear about it a hundred times," said an official from the relevant bureau. "Our goal is to raise awareness among workers about the hidden dangers they face daily. We aim to replace traditional lectures with experiential learning." According to the official, many migrant workers lack a strong sense of safety awareness. For instance, some wear helmets carelessly or even refuse to wear them due to discomfort. However, after experiencing the impact of a heavy object through the helmet test, workers gained a new understanding of the importance of wearing protective gear. The correct usage rate of helmets increased to 90% afterward.

According to reports from China State Construction Engineering Corporation, the training sessions are short but highly effective. The hidden danger rate in management has dropped by 30%, and the number of illegal operations by workers has been reduced by 50%. This demonstrates the significant impact of experiential safety education in improving on-site safety standards.
