In a significant breakthrough, the first mobile laboratory for F2-grade weight standard devices in China has been successfully developed by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Metrology and Testing Institute. This innovative project, supported by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Science and Technology Department, is now undergoing technical evaluation for official recognition.
The development process spanned over two years, during which the research team achieved all the set objectives. The project introduced several groundbreaking innovations that have filled critical gaps in China's metrology field. Once approved, this mobile laboratory will serve as a national standard for measurement across the country, offering a highly reliable and efficient solution for weight verification.
This mobile lab offers distinct advantages compared to traditional methods when verifying M1-grade weights of 500kg and 1000kg. By enabling on-site verification, it significantly reduces the need for transportation, manpower, and resources for enterprises and local metrology institutions that handle large weights. Additionally, the lab is equipped with advanced lifting systems, eliminating the need for extra equipment and making the process more convenient and safe.
Moreover, the mobile laboratory transforms the role of metrology organizations from passive service providers to active contributors. It addresses challenges in tracing the use of weights by inspection units, ensuring accurate and timely calibration. This improvement enhances the reliability of the national measurement system, promoting greater accuracy and trust in metrological practices.
The Inner Mongolia Metrology Institute is a comprehensive institution covering multiple metrology fields, including length, thermal, mechanical, electromagnetic, and chemical measurements. It operates under 42 bureau-level institutions and houses five national and regional centers, such as the National Urban Energy Measurement Center (Inner Mongolia), the National Oil and Gas Large Flow Meter Station, and the National Non-Automatic Weighing Instrument Type Evaluation Laboratory. These facilities support the institute's mission to provide high-quality metrology services and contribute to the advancement of science and technology in the region.
