Fujian Building Materials Co., Ltd. has pioneered a new application for marble powder, using it as a desulfurizer in power plants. The company now consumes over 900,000 tons of marble powder annually, significantly reducing costs by more than 20% compared to traditional limestone powder.
This innovative approach came after extensive research and testing conducted by the company's technical team. In 2012, they investigated the Nan’nan stone powder area, analyzing its properties and comparing them to those of limestone. They found that the marble powder met or even exceeded the quality standards of limestone, making it a viable alternative.
A dedicated research group was formed, and after months of experimentation, they developed an industrial test program to replace limestone with marble powder in desulfurization processes. With support from Hongshan Thermal Power Plant, the team successfully completed a full-scale test, replacing between 10% and 100% of the limestone with marble powder. The results were monitored by the Fujian Provincial Environmental Monitoring Center, which confirmed that the process met all required environmental standards.
This breakthrough not only helps reduce waste from stone production but also contributes to a more sustainable and cost-effective desulfurization solution. By repurposing what was once considered waste, the company is setting a new standard for environmental responsibility in the industry.
