According to the "Voice of Russia" radio station on January 28, the Russian Federal Space Agency is exploring the possibility of using the moon's natural water resources and local materials to establish a scientific research base on its surface. The project is still in the conceptual stage, but officials believe it could be realized after 2030. Yuri Makarov, director of the Russian Space Agency’s Strategic Planning and Targeting Program, emphasized the significance of such a mission. He stated, “If we can build a lunar research station, it would open up new frontiers in space exploration. Access to water, raw materials, and even rocket fuel could make the Moon a key hub for future missions.”

When asked about the timeline, Makarov said, “Predicting exact dates is always challenging, but I believe this project will take shape after 2030.” He added that the Moon’s stable surface, free from seismic activity, makes it an ideal location for long-term scientific installations. “There are many opportunities for constructing facilities dedicated to research,” he explained. “The Moon offers a unique environment that could support both scientific studies and future human presence.”
