Maintenance knowledge of tricolor dragon tree

The three-color dragon tree, also known as the three-color wood or millennium wood, is a beautiful plant native to China and India. It thrives in warm, humid conditions with slightly acidic sandy soil. The ideal winter temperature should not drop below 5°C, and it prefers full sun but should be protected from direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day.

When it comes to cultivation, regular misting of the stems and leaves during the summer growing season helps promote healthy growth. Fertilize every two weeks, and for older plants, you can fertilize once a week. In midsummer, provide some shade during noon hours and reduce watering in winter. Ensure the potting soil dries out between waterings, and always provide ample sunlight for optimal development.

Propagation is easy through cuttings or stem division. Cuttings are best taken between June and October. Select top branches that are 10–15 cm long with 5–6 leaves, and they usually root within a month after planting. For stem propagation, choose May to June. Cut the main stem about 20 cm from the top, make a 1 cm wide strip, cover it with moist moss, and wrap it in plastic film. Roots typically appear after around 40 days.

Common pests include anthracnose and leaf spot disease, which can be treated with a 10% antibacterial agent 401 diluted to 1000 times. Scale insects may also be a problem, so spraying with 40% omethoate EC at 1000 times dilution is effective. The three-color dragon tree has a straight trunk, lush foliage, and an elegant, compact shape, making it perfect for entrances, public spaces, and large halls. Potted varieties are stylish and sophisticated, ideal for guest rooms and window displays.
