A few days ago there were media articles saying that experiments confirmed that genetically modified foods have a high correlation with tumors. Lin Min, a member of the National Committee on Genetically Modified Organisms, said on August 30th that this experiment was verified by an authoritative organization as false. All genetically modified foods that are listed through safety evaluation are as safe as traditional foods. Lin Min said that GM foods must pass strict safety assessment and approval procedures for toxicity, sensitization, and teratogenicity before entering the market, and do not calculate laboratory time. It usually takes more than three years to enter the safety evaluation stage. Currently, there are no others. Food has undergone such a rigorous safety evaluation. GM foods have the same safety as non-GM foods.
Comments: As transgenes break down the longitudinal inheritance of species that has been formed for thousands of years, the horizontal transfer of genes across species is forcibly implemented, which may present new opportunities as well as potential risks.
