China's top 50 global construction machinery has occupied 11 seats

With the continuous enhancement of China's technological innovation capabilities, "Made in China" is gradually transforming into "Created in China." This shift reflects a broader trend where Chinese exports are moving from low-tech goods to high-end, large-scale, and intelligent high-tech products. The construction machinery industry stands as a prime example of this transformation. Domestic construction machinery manufacturers have shown strong performance in international exports. According to the latest data, in the first seven months of this year, the total import and export volume of the machinery sector reached 378.774 billion U.S. dollars, representing a 0.41% year-on-year increase. The growth rate was 2.17 percentage points higher than the previous six months. Specifically, exports amounted to 211.23 billion U.S. dollars, up 4.03% year-on-year, while imports dropped to 167.544 billion U.S. dollars, down 3.82% year-on-year. This resulted in a trade surplus of 43.686 billion U.S. dollars for the sector. Looking at the types of machinery exported, China's high-tech equipment is gaining recognition globally. In the first half of the year, the export value of construction machinery reached 6.142 billion U.S. dollars, rising by 1.76% compared to the same period last year. However, the export of parts and components fell sharply by 61.36%, which contributed to an overall decline of 19.05% in the construction machinery industry’s exports. Industry insiders highlight that independent innovation has been key to the success of domestic construction machinery companies. Large-scale equipment involves complex manufacturing processes, small production volumes, high costs, and significant operational risks. Before the introduction of the "Tenth Five-Year Plan," many companies were hesitant to enter this market. With the national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan," the need for research and development in large construction machinery became urgent, leading to rapid advancements in the sector. Over the past decade, China's construction machinery industry has experienced remarkable growth, becoming a golden era for the sector. Its technological innovation, product development, manufacturing capabilities, and control over the industrial chain have all seen significant improvements, enhancing its global standing. Taking Xugong Machinery as an example, the company started with the development of China’s first 25-ton all-terrain crane in 2002. Through continuous innovation, it introduced numerous breakthroughs in domestic all-terrain cranes, making China the third country in the world capable of independently developing and mass-producing such equipment. In addition, in early this year, 448 sets of Zoomlion's 80-meter pump trucks set a new Guinness World Record and were delivered internationally. Companies like Sany Heavy Industry and Liugong have also made notable progress through independent innovation. As the industrial structure continues to upgrade, R&D efforts in engineering machinery are increasingly focused on high-end, large-scale, and intelligent solutions, enhancing the competitiveness of "Made in China" in overseas markets. Over the past 10 years, supported by various national policies, several key enterprises have successfully manufactured 26 types of construction machinery commonly found in international markets, with quality comparable to foreign counterparts. Notably, among the world's top 50 construction machinery manufacturers, 11 Chinese companies have entered the list, with three Chinese leaders firmly in the top ten. While these enterprises still lag behind global leaders in scale and efficiency, their progress is undeniable. The global expansion of Chinese engineering companies has created a fast track for "China-created" equipment to reach international markets. For instance, Sany Heavy Industry acquired Germany's Putzmeister, while Guangxi Liugong Machinery purchased the engineering machinery division of Poland's HSW. Xugong Machinery also acquired a German concrete machinery giant, Shi Weiying. By acquiring and integrating global brands, Chinese construction machinery companies have achieved leapfrog development in product quality, R&D, technology, and overseas operations. Many enterprises have established comprehensive after-sales service networks, parts warehouses, and R&D centers worldwide, ensuring smooth product exports. Chinese construction machinery products are now close to international standards and offer excellent value, making them popular in developing countries. This growing presence highlights the evolving strength of "Made in China" on the global stage.
