In a small village in Vietnam, a man is trying to catch a rat. But it's not just any rat—he's after a cat that's known for being an excellent mouser. This particular cat is very good at catching mice, but it also has a taste for chicken. The villagers often talk about the effectiveness of their traditional mouse traps, but now they're facing a problem: the chickens are disappearing. The son wants to get rid of the cat because it's eating the family’s chickens. However, the father disagrees. He explains, “The real problem isn’t the chicken—it’s the mouse. Mice steal our food, chew through our clothes, and dig holes in our walls, which can damage our furniture. If we remove them, we might end up hungry and cold. So, we have to deal with them! If you’re not strong enough to protect your chickens, don’t blame the cat. You should be working harder to prevent this from happening!” This story highlights a common dilemma: sometimes, the solution to one problem may create another. It also reflects how people often struggle to balance different needs and priorities. In leadership, there's a saying: "No one is perfect." A leader who is too strict with their team may miss out on valuable talent. Even those with flaws can contribute significantly if given the right opportunity. For example, in the United States, there was an inventor named Lotner. Despite his occasional drunkenness, Henry Ford still hired him. And in the end, Lotner made great contributions to the Ford Motor Company. Modern management theory emphasizes the importance of analyzing human potential. "Energy" refers to a person’s ability or talent, while "gong" means whether these abilities can be effectively utilized. Research shows that it's often better to use someone with unique skills—even if they have some imperfections—than to rely on someone who seems perfect but lacks real impact.
