The Italian company Duraldur specializes in the production of cast and forged pistons, tab cylinders and centrifugal cast iron piston rods for internal combustion engines.

Since its establishment in DESENZANO DEL GARDA in Brescia (BRESCIA) in 1951, it now employs 110 people in design, manufacturing, quality control, technical support and administration. The company supplies high quality products to the largest engine manufacturers in the truck, excavator, agricultural machinery and automotive (especially racing) industries.

Manufacturing manager Nicola Manfrin said that more than 80% of the products are exported to European countries, especially Germany. Mr. Manfrin is interested in any new developments that increase productivity and product quality. This is especially true for piston rods, whose surface roughness and machining accuracy are critical to the better performance of the engines they use.

The customer accidentally heard about the TP2500 from a speech by Seco Tools in the region's technology and sales representative, Alberto Barone. Mr. Alberto Barone demonstrated the characteristics of the new Duratomic coating technology, with particular emphasis on its excellent durability and good toughness.

After finishing the piston rod (DD2 pearlite malleable cast iron) with the WBMT160408-F1 TP2500 blade, Mr. Manfrin immediately achieved a 15% increase in tool life. Next, he expanded the range of the test knives and increased the cutting parameters to Vc = 240 m / min, fz = 0.13 mm / r and ap = 0.3 mm, and the productivity was also increased by 15%.

Mr. Manfrin was very satisfied with the results, and then replaced the blade originally used for roughing with TNMG160408-M3 TP2500 (Vc=240m/min, fz=0.25mm/r, ap=1.5mm). This confirms the advantages of Duratomic technology and also enables Duraldur to further increase productivity and durability.

The Duratomic grade performance allows Duraldur to use this blade in an important process.
