A research achievement cracks three major problems in the domestic aluminum industry

The “Theories and Techniques for Efficient Utilization of Aluminum Resources and Preparation of High-Performance Aluminum Materials” led by Professor Zhong Duo at Central South University broke through the technical barriers to low extraction efficiency of medium-low-grade aluminum ore resources and ensured the protection of China’s bauxite resources. The number of years has increased from 10 to 60 years.

Professor Zhong Di introduced that this project is mainly aimed at China's aluminum resources shortage, aluminum advanced material can not meet the country's major strategic needs, the existence of high energy consumption, high pollution and other three major challenges in the development of metal aluminum, currently a total of 67 invention patents, 7 Complete technology and 16 kinds of high-performance aluminum alloy materials and components.

The Bayer process, which was invented by the project, can economically utilize 80% of China's bauxite reserves with medium-low grade bauxite, which alleviates the current conflict that aluminum resources cannot meet the needs of industrial development. The technology of anti-oxidation low-resistance carbon anode preparation makes energy saving and emission reduction in the smelting process more than 10%, and the annual electricity consumption exceeds 10 billion kwh.
